چکیده

The development of room temperature infrared (IR) detectors for wavelengths beyond NIR will open up many applications that are currently limited due to cooling requirements. Three approaches are discussed, which show promise for room temperature IR detection. Tunneling quantum dot (QD) detector, utilizes a tunneling barrier in order to block the dark current while permitting the photocurrent to pass through due to resonance effects, has shown room temperature response for a detector operating at 6 and 17mm. The PbS QDs in a dielectric medium utilizes electronic polarizability of QDs, sensing only the variations of the radiation intensity, operating at ambient temperature. This method allows narrow multiple response bands. A GaAs/AlGaAs heterojunction detector, utilizing light, heavy and split-off hole transition in a p-doped semiconductor, shows a threshold of 3.4mm operating

An opto-electro-mechanical infrared photon detector with high internal gain at room temperature.

Many applications require detectors with both high sensitivity and linearity, such as low light level imaging and quantum computing. Here we present an opto-electro-mechanical detector based on nano-injection and lateral charge compression that operates at the short infrared (SWIR) range. Electrical signal is generated by photo-induced changes in a nano-injector gap, and subsequent change of tu...

Highly sensitive H2S sensors based on Cu2O/Co3O4 nano/microstructure heteroarrays at and below room temperature

Gas sensors with high sensitivity at and below room temperature, especially below freezing temperature, have been expected for practical application. The lower working temperature of gas sensor is better for the manufacturability, security and environmental protection. Herein, we propose a H2S gas sensor with high sensitivity at and below room temperature, even as low as -30 °C, based on Cu2O/C...

A Bio-inspired Single Photon Detector with Suppressed Noise and Low Jitter

A novel short wave infrared single photon detector was conceived for wavelengths beyond 1 μm. The detector, called the nano-injection photon detector, is conceptually designed with biological inspirations taken from the eye. Based on a detection process similar to the human visual system, the detector couples a nano-scale sensory region with a large absorption volume to provide a low-noise inte...

Nano-structured TiO(2) film fabricated at room temperature and its acoustic properties.

Nano-structured TiO(2) thin film has been successfully fabricated at room temperature. Using a quarter wavelength characterization method, we have measured the acoustic impedance of this porous film, which can be adjusted from 5.3 to 7.19 Mrayl by curing it at different temperatures. The uniform microstructure and easy fabrication at room temperature make this material an excellent candidate fo...

Ultrafast Room-Temperature Single Photon Emission from Quantum Dots Coupled to Plasmonic Nanocavities.

Efficient and bright single photon sources at room temperature are critical components for quantum information systems such as quantum key distribution, quantum state teleportation, and quantum computation. However, the intrinsic radiative lifetime of quantum emitters is typically ∼10 ns, which severely limits the maximum single photon emission rate and thus entanglement rates. Here, we demonst...
